Dubai Silicon Oasis Plants 1,000 Ghaf Trees to Mark Year of Tolerance

Dubai-UAE: 29 May, 2019 – Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA), the regulatory body for Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), the integrated free zone technology park, has announced plans to plant 1,000 ghaf trees across its premises during the Year of Tolerance, emphasizing the values of openness, communication and mutual respect that have characterized the UAE since its founding more than four decades ago.

Dr Mohammed Al Zarooni, Vice Chairman and CEO of DSOA, planted the first ghaf tree, Tolerance Tree, in front of the DSOA headquarters.

Highlighting the significance of the occasion, Dr Mohammed Al Zarooni said: “Since its establishment, the UAE has embraced an open society model based on tolerance, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence. This has created a favorable economic environment that enables pioneers and innovators both within and outside the country to succeed. Through planting the ghaf tree, we are renewing our commitment to the values that our nation holds dear.”

DSOA plans to plant 1,000 trees during the Year of Tolerance across DSO to reflect the Authority’s commitment to national objectives and enhance the aesthetic appeal of DSO’s urban landscape.

DSOA’s campaign supports the Gheras initiative that was launched by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) to enhance public awareness of local plants and support the implementation of the Cabinet Resolution No. 18 of 2018 on local plant farming and nature conservation. The list of indigenous plants covered by the initiative features 72 species, including ghaf, acacia, henna, sidr, desert thorn, and caprifig.
