DEWA signs MoU with Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority to enhance cooperation, achieve mutual goals

Dubai, UAE, 8 May 2018: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA), the regulatory authority for Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), the integrated free zone technology park, to build strategic partnerships and enhance coordination and common support for the success of international events that highlight renewable energy initiatives and sustainability for both sides.

The MoU was signed by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA and Dr Mohammed Al Zarooni, Vice Chairman and CEO of DSOA.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer appreciated the cooperation with Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority and highlighted the importance of this partnership in supporting the international events and exhibitions organised by DEWA. He noted the important role of the high-tech park in encouraging modern technology-based industries and providing an integrated community and modern infrastructure as well as local business services, as well as supporting joint efforts to attract international companies to expand their activities and businesses and pushing economic development in Dubai. This is in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to support comprehensive sustainable development in its environmental, social and economic dimensions, and to strengthen Dubai’s position as a global hub for business, finance and investment.

“The participation of Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority as a strategic sponsor of WETEX is a continuation of the success of the exhibition in uniting the national efforts in implementing the vision of our wise leadership to make the UAE a global hub for green economy. Over the past 19 years, the exhibition has united international efforts to effectively deploy innovation, scientific innovation and technological development in developing the energy, water and green economy sectors and has become a major event on the map of global events. The exhibition is an important platform for green solutions, and is an up-to-date forum for organisations and companies to promote their work and products, deals and conduct business partnerships, review the latest technology. It has become a meeting point for experts, professionals and stakeholders to share best practices and experiences. Last year, the exhibition attracted over 50 exhibitors from 50 countries, covering 70,000 square metres, with more than 75 exhibitors and more than 30,000 visitors,” said Al Tayer

Al Tayer noted that the support for the Dubai Solar Exhibition reflects the mutual goals of making Dubai a global hub for clean energy and green economy and achieve The Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050. The exhibition, the largest of its kind in the region, highlights the latest innovations in the solar energy sector and the region's largest projects through providing a unique platform to build partnerships with all government and private sectors to develop innovative solutions. The Dubai Solar show last year was 14,000 square metres in size and there were 28 sponsors with 90 exhibitors from around the world.

For his part, Dr Mohammed Al Zarooni said: “DSOA strongly supports the non-oil sectors that contribute to the knowledge-based economy. DEWA is a global pioneer in energy and water production, and a government entity that facilitates technology for the future of the nation. Therefore, we are pleased to support its efforts in developing technologies for a better energy sector that ensures a sustainable economy, in line with the directives and vision of the wise leadership.”

Dr Zarooni added: “DSO provides the latest infrastructure and supports ongoing businesses in the technology sector. DEWA spares no efforts in researching the production of clean energy, which contributes to the UAE’s minimal water and energy waste. Hence, the common desire to use technology in support of environmental and economic sustainability".

The MoU included the participation of Dubai Silicon Oasis in the upcoming Water, Energy, Environment Technology Exhibition (WETEX 2018) and the Dubai Solar Exhibition through providing strategic sponsorship for the two major events. DEWA is organizing the 20th edition of WETEX 2018 and the third edition of the Dubai Solar Exhibition at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from 23 to 25 October 2018. Over the past 19 years, WETEX has established itself as the largest and most important exhibition in the energy, water, environmental, sustainability and renewable energy sectors in the region.

The signing ceremony was attended by Dr Juma Al Matrooshi, Deputy CEO Operations & Client Affairs at DSOA, Eng. Muammar Al Katheeri, Executive VP - Engineering Management and Smart City at DSOA, Ghanim Al Falasi, Senior Vice President - People Happiness & Innovation at DSOA, Dr Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources at DEWA and Khawla Al Mehairi, Acting Executive Vice President of Strategy & Government Communications at DEWA.
